LFN #264 – I Haven’t Had Health Insurance in Years. Here’s What I Do Instead.

Andy Schoonover is back on the show, and we’re catching up on where CrowdHealth is at now.

For folks who haven’t heard me talk about this before, CrowdHealth is a parallel economy alternative to health insurance. It’s a peer-to-peer crowd of people, a lot of them freedom folks and Bitcoiners, who fund each other’s health events directly instead of running everything through an insurance company. I’m a member. Ryan’s a member. My bill usually runs well under $200 a month.

Here’s the argument Andy makes…

There are two broken options in front of most people. Insurance supposedly protects you from a big bill, though it often doesn’t. But by transferring the risk to a third party, it strips out any reason for you to care what anything costs. Nobody asks the price. That’s a major reason prices keep climbing.

Going uninsured keeps you price conscious. You ask what things cost because you’re paying. But it leaves you exposed if something catastrophic happens.

CrowdHealth’s bet is that you can have both. Community support for the large, unexpected costs, with members keeping ownership of their own healthcare decisions and the tools to make those decisions well.

As Andy puts it, putting ownership back with the individual is the only way to bring real consumerism, and real cost reduction, to healthcare.

We get into how it actually works day to day, what happens when you have a real health event, how they handle holistic and natural health practitioners, what it costs, and where the model is headed.

Andy is speaking at Exit & Build 6

November 5-8, 2026 at Mollie Engelhart’s Sovereignty Ranch in Bandera, Texas.

He’s taking the main stage and then spending time answering questions directly from attendees about CrowdHealth. If you’ve been curious about opting out of the insurance system but had questions holding you back, that’s your chance to ask the founder in person.

Four days on working regenerative land with hands-on implementation zones where you actually build instead of taking notes. Also speaking: David Avocado Wolfe, Joel Skousen, Curtis Stone, Alec Zeck, Doug and Stacy, Mollie Engelhart, Jeremy Cordon of Goldback, Mike Winner, and the full Sacred Honor Educational Fellowship crew.
